Đừng tin bản thân bạn - Don't trust yourself. Write it down.

I have a fictional scenario here, you read my blog and feel inspired to make positive change in your life. Awesome. You want to create a good habit of reading everyday, in English. Excellent. You think to yourself that you are going to start tomorrow, first thing in the morning. Brilliant. You actually do it for several days in a row. Blast. Then one morning you couldn't get up, skipped. Next day, you have to go out to buy toilet papers (because of the corona virus, need to stock up), skipped. A few days gone by, you totally forget about your will to read. The end.

Now, allow me to shout at you "Do not trust yourself on anything like that!" Our human brains are wired to stay safe and comfortable. And changes are not. That is why if we let our brain stay in charge, it will find ways to stop us from stepping out of our comfort zone.

Here's what you need to do:
  • write things down in any form and stick it where you can see it
  • monitor your own progress using daily checklist or an app
  • have a specific time and timeline for any new things that you try to do, i.e. 6:30 in the morning, everyday for a month
The 5 Second Rules by Mel Robbins is a concept that worths trying to break bad habits and create good ones. I have read her book, and so did Tom. We absolutely love it and actually applied it in our daily life.

Here's Mel Robbins in an Impact Theory interview by my other favorite person Tom Bilyeu about how we can trick our brain into doing what's best for us, instead of holding us back.

Remember, don't trust yourself. Write it down.
